Narrabri Boxing: Let’s get ready to rumble

Dreams will be made and careers could be put to bed.

Dreams will be made and careers could be put to bed.

That is how serious this weekend’s fight night at the Crossing Theatre is being taken by the pro boxers featuring on the event card.

Two World Boxing Association (WBA) title belts are up for grabs on the Saturday night.

Olympic boxer turned-professional gloveman, Cameron Hammond, is putting his WBA Oceania welterweight title on the line.

The 25-year-old, who is born and bred in Moree, will go toe-to-toe with Sydney’s Sedat Tasci.

Hammond is undefeated in 12

professional fights but will probably face his biggest challenge yet when he enters the Narrabri ring as the main event on Saturday evening.

The fight this Saturday night at The Crossing Theatre

Mananger Matt Clark expects Cameron Hammond to turn on the style when faces Sedat Tasci in a battle of former Olympians this weekend.

Hammond defends his WBA Oceania welterweight crown against the teak tough Turk on David "Spike" Syphers' show at the Crossing Theatre in Narrabri, New South Wales and Clark believes the Moree favourite will once again underline his potential for the top.

Tasci is by far Hammond's best opponent to date. Now boxing out of Sydney, the 30-year-old represented Turkey at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and has only lost once in an eight year pro career.

"Without a doubt Sedat Tasci represents the toughest challenge Cameron has faced as a professional," Clark said. "Tasci is a rough, tough brawler who had a very distinguished amateur career himself. His sole loss was for the Australian title and it was as a result of a head clash and he was only slightly behind on the cards at the time.

World class boxing event for Narrabri

Crowd favourite: Locally-trained Joebert Delos Reyes, left, is hitting Narrabri’s Anytime Fitness this week as he prepares for Saturday’s fight night in town. He is pictured with former Australian and Pan-Asian cruiserweight champion, Daniel Rowsell, trainer Richard Dumaluan and ITC National’s Ben Finnegan.

Momentum is building towards this weekend’s boxing extravaganza, as the Narrabri’s Crossing Theatre prepares to host another huge fight night.

Coined the ‘Battle in the Bri’, this year’s event is expected to be even bigger than the last, with five pro fights arranged, two of which are WBA title belt bouts.

That should draw an international audience, with all the action in the purpose-built ring being beamed live all around the world via the internet come this Saturday night.
