Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal

Like most people, the FRRR team is certainly having a busy run right to the end of the year! It's a heady mix of assessing grants and planning for the New Year.

In November, FRRR and Schools Plus co-hosted a joint meeting of the Philanthropy Australia Rural and Education Funder Groups. We presented the outcomes of a research collaboration between FRRR, Schools Plus, Myer Foundation and VFFF, with the support of skilled volunteers from Origin Foundation. We shared data to build a collective picture of what rural schools and non-profits are seeking support for and where grants are being directed, in an effort to better understand the issues and needs in rural education and the contribution being made by the philanthropic sector.

AWARD NOMINATIONS TO CELEBRATE LOCAL BUSINESS WOMEN

AWARD NOMINATIONS TO CELEBRATE LOCAL BUSINESS WOMEN

Telstra Business Women of the Year

Telstra Business Women’s Awards, now in its 22nd year, recognise and reward the courage, leadership and creativity of Australia’s most brilliant business women and play a critical role in raising the profile of women in business. The Barwon community is urged to nominate a local business woman to celebrate their achievements.  There are many business women in the Barwon electorate from a diverse range of working backgrounds who are achieving great things and have demonstrated courageous and successful leadership. The Awards provide an opportunity to recognise these women. These women are driving our nation’s economic growth and continue to excel in their fields. We admire them for their hard work and encourage them to strive to achieve even greater things. Anyone can nominate a business woman they admire, with entries open until 20 June 2016. National awards, including the announcement of the Telstra Business Woman of the Year will take place at a gala dinner in Melbourne on Wednesday 23 November 2016. The New South Wales Awards will be presented on Tuesday 11 October 2016. To nominate or enter the Awards, go to www.telstrabusinesswomensawards.com or call the Telstra Business Women’s Awards on 1800 817 536 for further information.

Latest News from FRRR

Latest News from FRRR

It's not that long since my last message, but we wanted to give you a quick update on some of the programs that are currently open, and also share a few things that have happened in the last couple of weeks.

We’ve been working with our partners on several upcoming programs, including this years ANZ Seeds of Renewal grants and the second Community and Philanthropy Partnerships Week. Last week Frankie and I also spent a couple of days in Kempsey on the Mid North Coast region of NSW, talking to schools, family and youth service providers and Aboriginal elders about the new Social Innovation Fund program, and Innovation for Community Impact (I4CI), which is currently accepting applications. In these meetings, we encountered much depth, passion and plenty of opportunity, reminding us of the value of visiting communities to hear first-hand their needs, challenges, priorities and ideas and what they can do to lead change. Our team is looking forward to getting on the road as much as possible.

Northern Inland Innovation Awards Deadline Extended

The Northern Inland Innovation Awards entry deadline has been extended to Monday 28 September.

Regional Development Australia Northern Inland has been talking to businesses and organisations around the region in recent weeks. Spring is a busy time, so the one week extension should help ensure that a quality regionally representative field of entries are received. So far, a good regional spread of entries have received but more examples of innovation are being sought from the Liverpool and Moree Plains, Tamworth, Inverell and the Gwydir Shire. We are particularly keen to see how innovative the manufacturing and engineering sector is in our region. Hopefully, our engineering businesses can make the most of this extended time and get an entry in. Our region needs your positive story.

Businesses, public and not-for-profit organisations, together with the 13 local councils of the Northern Inland NSW region are being urged to submit entries for the 8th annual Regional Development Australia Northern Inland (RDANI) Innovation Awards.
