NEW CODE TO PROTECT INEXPERIENCED HORSE RIDERS

NEW CODE TO PROTECT INEXPERIENCED HORSE RIDERS

A new Code of Practice to help reduce horse-related injuries and fatalities among novice and beginner riders has been released in NSW. Of the 133 fatalities that occurred Australia-wide between 2000 and 2014, 18 per cent involved people under the age of 20. The Code will help prevent horse-related injuries and fatalities among beginner and inexperienced riders and aims to ensure that the temperament of the horse and the experience of the rider are adequately matched. The Code has been developed following extensive consultation with more than 100 responses to calls for comment from key industry groups and individuals. Numerous businesses across the state offer horse-related activities and this Code will provide them with the practical tools they need to ensure they are complying with their obligations and doing everything they can to prevent injuries and fatalities. The NSW Government is committed to improving safety for inexperienced and novice horse riders, such as those participating in pony clubs, at jackaroo and jillaroo schools and trail riding schools. The Code includes practical tools such as a checklist for riders and a checklist for horses, to evaluate the level and skill of the rider and also to help assess the suitability of the horse for the activity being undertaken. The Code will come into effect on 1 February 2017. The Code of Practice is available from www.safework.nsw.gov.au

Barney Rubble’s 2016 Rugby Review – Rd 8 v Pirates

Barney Rubble’s 2016 Rugby Review – Rd 8 v Pirates

From their website

Another cold and damp weekend saw the Blue Boars headed to Tamworth to take on the Pirates in four grades as all Narrabri teams finally got to play at the same venue for the first time this season.

The Under 16’s kicked off the day’s play as they took on the young Buccaneers. For both junior grades it was the first time the Boars and Pirates had met for the season as the 6 team draw had somehow kept them apart for the first 8 rounds. But with two more clashes to between them to come it would give a good indication of where the two clubs colts were at. Unfortunately the Piglets struggled to get in the game and went down 40-5. The disappointment was clear to see, no more so than on Big Ben Atkinson’s face. Benno refused to be consoled after the match but will no doubt use it to lead the charge when Pirates come to visit Dangar Park.

A century of league in Boggabri

A century of league in Boggabri

Stephen Young May 12, 2016 Namoi Valley Independent

In the early years, Boggabri teams were composed almost entirely of members of the Eather family.

In the 1920s, Boggabri had great successes in the inter-town competition, the Spicer Cup, and also the Bollard Cup which was played in the Boggabri area.

In 1946, Boggabri’s Trevor Eather played for Australia in a Test against Great Britain.

Day One of Country Championships Rugby | Photos, Updates

Sam Newsam May 7, 2016 The Northern Daily Leader

The Novocastrians were the Kookaburras’ nemisis with the opens clipping the Kookaburras wings 33-18.

The Kookaburras were chasing their first Caldwell Cup since 2001 and really took the fight to last years runners-up.

There was nothing in it in the first half, Simon Newton putting the Kookaburras ahead 3-nil with a few minutes remaining, before Newcastle hooker Steve Lamont ploughed through a few tired Central North tackles in the shades of half-time to give them a 5-3 lead at the break.

Caldwell Cup the aim for Kookas

May 6, 2016

HE lifted the Richardson Shield last year and now Central North skipper Matt Schwager is hoping to get his hands on the Caldwell Cup.

The Kookaburras will in Armidale this weekend be chasing their first Caldwell Cup since 2001 and, with the squad they have assembled, are confident they can give it a good shake.

“We’ve got probably the best team we can pick out of the whole of Central North,” Schwager said.

Pretty much everyone coaches Tom Cullen and Hunter Harley asked committed to being involved.
